Question: Dr. Sharka….I will be reasonable with my questions and the number of them. I will not abuse the system.
The hospital treated two coronary arteries, and left a third one since it was only 30% blocked. The doctor told me that medications would do the rest for that artery. I guess he meant 40 mg/diem Crestor plus aspirin and Bilinta plus blood pressure meds and bisoprolol.
Now, how can we tell if my disease becomes stable or not? Does the hard-capped plaque ever rupture over time and what can we do to stop that?
Overall, I feel better and have more energy. I walked very quickly today and my legs were not too bad. Encouraging. But my legs need to be unblocked.
Finally, do they usually do another Mibi after a year or so to scan arteries?
Thank you! XXXXXXX reilley

Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome back to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would like to reassure you that the 30% blockage hard plaque is really a stable plaque and does not block in the next years(it is considered low grade stenosis), especially considering your actual therapy and a healthy lifestyle.

So, just relax and don't worry about it!

A mibi test imposes the patient to a high risk of radiation. For this reason we don't repeat this test so often.

A periodical check up with a resting ECG, blood lipid profile, fasting glucose is done every 6 months.

A dobutamine stress echo or exercise cardiac stress test can be performed after a year in order to reassure you that every thing is OK.

Anyway if you are experiencing typical chest pain, these tests should be done earlier.

So, we are usually based on the patients clinical symptoms and previous tests and comorbidities ( arterial hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetes, etc) when asking for additional cardiac tests and check ups.

But in your case there is no reason to panic , as I am pretty sure that every thing is going to be Ok!

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need!

Wishing all the best ,

No, there is no chest pain...they unblocked the arteries that caused it.
I think everything is going to be OK also! :-)

Happy Easter Dr. Sharka!
