Due Dry Nostril Not Been Able To Sleep

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Aug 2024
Question: Hi, I am male 59 years old. I have had a chronic cough for about 9 months now caused by Gerd/Acid Reflux. As I started to lose weight it slowly got better but did not go away all the way. 2 months ago I got Covid and got really sick. Cough was bad but it started to get better. About 30 hours ago I started to get a constant dry cough. I do get post nasal drip but since this started it is mostly dry. I have not been able to sleep at all since this started as I am constantly coughing. It does not matter if I am laying down or sitting up. I took Sever Cold/Flu Nyquil about 5 hours ago to try to knock me about but I still can't sleep because of the constant cough.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, you are having cough and loose stools after COVID infection, so it may indicate post COVID syndrome.

Please let me know,
Do you have fever, difficulty in breathing?

In that case, i would suggest you to consult with chest physician for detailed clinical examination.

He may prescribe complete hemogram, chest x ray as per evaluation. You may require antibiotics after evaluation/ chest examination.

Till then I would suggest you to continue Nyquil/ syp. Grillinctus and prevacid. You can also take tablet montelukast 10 mg and syp. Mucaine gel after physician consultation.

Along with that, continue betadine gargles. Use humidifier. Keep yourself well hydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam XXXXXXX

Helo Dr. I did not have fever or difficulty breathing. The cough is no longer constant but it is much deeper. I assume I either have the flu or covid returned. I am going in to get tested tomorrow.

Thank you for your advice. It is nice to have when everything is closed. I had never had a constant cough like that. I have had bad coughs but nothing like that.

Thanks,

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

It's a good sign as you don't have any other symptoms.

As today you are going for testing, along with that kindly do complete hemogram and chest x ray after physician consultation. Further line of treatment may depends upon lab reports.

Along with that kindly follow all precautions as suggested earlier.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further

Take care.
