Question: During a recent MRI for a back problem, I was told it was ok to leave my prosthetic leg on during the procedure. I had had MRI's before, but was told by the MRI Tech. I could leave it on. During the MRI, my prosthetic leg stuck to the side of the machine, and the noise became so loud, and as a result I suffered extensive hearing loss. I think it was due to the metal in my prosthetic leg messing up the magnets in the machine, Is this possible?

Brief Answer:
Yes it is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I can understand your concern. Yes, It is possible, as you should never carry any metal though it may be in any form like prosthesis, pacemaker, implants inside the MRI room.

Because such metal objects act as magnet in the magnetic field of MRI machine, which may cause such serious health issues or mishap. So please take care in future.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Thank you.
