Ear Pain, Blisters, Brown Area. Applied Dexpanthenol Gel, Solution Of Alcohol And Geranium Oil. How Long Will Color Stay?
Question: Hi, I had a pain in ear and made application from 70% Alchocol and geranium oil. Then I went to sleep. After around 2 hours I woke up with burning pain. I washed all areas for 10 minutes and applied some first aid gel. In the morning I applied buck-thorn oil. Later during the day I applied. Dexpanthenol gel. The pain is gone already after less than one day. There are some small blisters. And all area changed color to brown. How do you think how long that color will stay and what I should do to get back her natural color. I know that I must avoid the sun.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.
Hello XXXXXXX,
Thanks for the query.
You have developed an allergic contact dermatitis to alcohol and geranium oil.
You mentioned applying Dexpanthenol gel, which is a vitamin B5 gel.
It might provide you a bit relief but it will be better to use Hydrocortisone gel, which is a mild steroid and will provide faster relief in allergic conditions, and will reduce the blistering.
In addition Hydrocortisone gel will also decrease the brownish color and prevent further discoloration.
It will take a minimum of 15 days for the discoloration to go away.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you

Hello. Thanks for reply.
You mentioned that its just allergic contact dermatitis
But it also 2nd degree burn. Its quite big! Half cheek and whole area behind the ear and on the neck as well. Now (4 days after) its deep brown color but first it was deep purplish … these days I was applying fresh aloe vera leaf, mix from flaxseed oil, buckthorn oil and dexpanthenol cream. Also while I’m dancing or doing yoga and sweating a lot I’m applying bio placenta gel (which contains neomycin sulfate) and covering everything with sterile bandage to prevent infection as some blisters was open.
I agreed on this antibiotic for very few (2-3) days cause I live in Bali now n its warm humid tropic county so want to be safe. But I’m not agree to apply any steroids (its quite big area and it will influence all my body). I’m very sensitive and completely natural person. Any steroids are taboo for me.
Do you have any other suggestions of any specimen (could be mild chemical but not harmful) which will rejuvenate my cell quicker in all layers of skin (as derma also could be damaged)
Thank you

Hello dear,
Its good to know you like natural things.
Here are my suggestions for you.
1. Vitamin C and vitamin E have good healing power, so please apply a vitamin C cream and take citrus fruits as well as watermelons.
2. Once the wound is healed, you can use turmeric paste, it is a good de-pigmentary agent, it will reduce the pigmentation and also prevent scarring.
Hope this information helps you a bit.
Thank you

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX So this happened exactly one week ago. Two days ago some pus bubbles appeared in the middle of the burned area. Now they started to decrease in size. Should I wait till they are gone by itself, or I should prick it to let the pus out easier? And another question: for how long should I avoid Sun. I'm living in Bali, Indonesia, and the Sun is very strong here.
I hope that the burn will go away completely, but if in a few months I will still have some discoloration or over-coloration marks, what dermatology procedure you would recommend? (Laser, peeling,...)
Thank you very much

Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for the follow up,
Please don't prick them, let the pus drain on itself.
The best way to avoid sun is, by using sunscreen.
Once is lesion is dry you can start applying a sunscreen with 30+ spf.
For discoloration, you can go for peeling, it is better than laser.
Thank you
