Question: Earlier today I experienced sudden nausea, then vomitting following a meal. My heart rate elevated and I then had shortness of breath. These symptoms went away after about 10 or 15 minutes. I have had elevated anxitey since this all happened. Sunday this also happened in the form of a migrane, followed by nausea. Both times I drank coffee on an empty stomach and the symptoms follower a few hours later. My cholesterol and blood sugar are normal according to blood work taken this week (attached). Thoughts?

I have had generalized anxiety disorder for many years now. To my knowledge, I have never had a panic attack.

Hi...
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.
Probably the symptoms which you experienced i.e. nausea, vomiting and increased pulse rate were due to the consumption of coffee and that too on empty stomach.
Coffee causes hyperacidity and gastritis and the caffeine content of it causes giddiness and palpitations.
As you already have a background of anxiety disorder so you should cut down on tea, coffee and alcohol.
Learn relaxation techniques, have rich fiber diet, take multivitamin and omega 3 supplements, get sun exposure and regular counseling to ease the symptoms of anxiety.
Your clinician would guide you regarding the drug management.
An untreated or partially treated anxiety may progress in to a panic attack.
Hope that I have answered your query.
Stay healthy and stay blessed.
