Every So Often, I Feel The Sudden Need To Use

default
Posted on Sun, 21 Apr 2019
Question: Every so often, I feel the sudden need to use the restroom. I feel chills, nausea, lightheaded, stomach cramps and diarrhea. ALL AT ONCE! I don’t know if I’m going to vomit or defecate....it usually comes in waves and it’s always the latter. I feel good immediately after. During these episodes, my biggest fear would be passing out because my body definitely feels like it’s going to. The episodes are not often but they do happen approximately every few months...even close to a year apart. Should I be worried?

Brief Answer:
Few tests should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for asking query on HealthcareMagic,
I have seen your details,
Your symptoms can have three possible explaination-
1)Recurrent infection of gut-As there are chills.Chills are usually there when there is infection present inside body.Chills causes rise in temperature of body and blood and hence try to kill bacteria's.Apart from that all other symptoms are also seen in stomach flu.
To rule this out I would suggest you to go for complete blood count and stool culture test.

2)As attacks are widely separated they could be a presentation of panic attacks also. For this a pyschiatric consult can be taken.

3)Irritable bowel syndrome- It's a disease cause of which is unknown.Presents usually with the same sets of symptoms you mentioned above however chills are usually not there.Exact cause of it is not known till date. Some patients may have frequent symptoms while others may have large interval between attacks.Presentation may vary from patient to patient.
Only way to rule this out is to get all tests done.If all test related to intestines namely colonoscopy,CT scan abdomen and stool test are normal patient is labelled as having Ibs.

As per as your question should I be worried?
I would suggest you that if your colonoscopy and stool tests are normal then there is no need to worry plus you have pyschiatric clearance for panic attack then you need not to worry.
Hope I was helpful,
Follow ups are welcome,
Regards!
