Question: Every time my boyfriend and I have sex he gets friction burn (Reddish and a small blister or two) on the head of his penis, where he ends up in pain for days after, but it does heal itself. No burning with urination. STDs tested and clean aside from HSV1 of mouth (cold sores). We use condoms especially since I have HSV2 (vaginal) but take medication and have had no flare ups in many years. He is a 32 yr old male with no significant health conditions known. Is there anything that can be done to further prevent this or possible issues that may attribute to it?

He should use a water-based lubricant or a prelubricated condom

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in"Ask a Doctor".
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You should know that some conditions can cause friction burn in glans penis , like uncircumsized, fungal infection, intens sex or diabetes.

Usually, in order to avoid friction burns, he should be gentler when have sex(ease up on the intensity), and should use a water-based lubricant or a prelubricated condom during sex.

Hope I have answered your query.
