Excessive Sweating On Feet & Palms. Hereditary Problem. Tried Anti-perspirants & Deodorants, Drysol & Aluminium Chloride, Taken Homeopathy. Hospitals In Bangalore For Treatment?
I am 30 years age guy from Bangalore. I have excessive sweating problem on my feet and palms since childhood. This is hereditary in my family. This problem is with my mother and also with my brother. I have no control over this sweating. When it starts & stops I have absolutely no control over it. Usually it stops when I asleep. Usually when it is hot climate it sweats more. It doesn’t depends on any of my anxiety. It sweats even if I am not nervous.
I tried many anti-perspirants, deodorants & homeopathy. I used online products like DRYSOL, aluminium chloride in ethyl alcohol - but nothing works.
I am afraid and don’t want to go for surgical treatments like ETS.
Can you please suggest what should I do?
Is there any hospital in Bangalore you would recommend for treatment? Also please tell me which department should I approach in a hospital - Dermatology or Neurology ?
Thanks Doctor.
You seem to be suffering with Palmoplantar hyperhidrosis.
As you have already tried some remedies like anti-perspirant, homeopathy remedy, and few online products; I would tell you available treatment modalities for you.
1] Tap water Iontophoresis using galvanic current: This is first line of treatment. Usually 3-4 treatments of 20-30 minutes each is required every week. Sweating reduces after 8-10 treatments. Maintenance therapy is indicated once every 1 to 4 weeks, depending upon the individual responses.
Skin dryness and irritation is the most frequent side effect.
2] Intradermal injection of botulinum toxin: If iontophoresis fails, this is next step.
This provides relief for 6 to 12 months. The injection can be quite painful and requires proper anesthesia.
3] Systemic anti-cholinergic drugs can be prescribed but they have more side effects like dry mouth, dry eyes, and urinary retention.
One more option that you have already tried is topical application of aluminium chloride hexahydrate 10-25%. Still you can try it again under medical guidance.
Once you are done with above conservative treatments; and in case if you do not get relief then only surgical options will be advised.
Regarding hospitals in Bangalore; there are many specialized hospitals you can choose, though I cannot suggest one particular.
Approach the dermatology department for the treatment of this condition.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Take care.
Best regards,
Dr. Neelam.
