Experiencing Drastic Hair Fall, The My Doctor Prescribed Me Thyronorm 12.5 Mg Treatment For Hypothyroidism Could This Be Reason?

Question: I am 29 years old. 8 months back I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism with TSH 6.67. After this I was under homeopathic treatment for a while. After 8 months when I once again got my TSH level checked, then it had come to 4.52. My periods was normal but I was having drastic hair fall during these 8 months time. So I consulted an MBBS doctor. With 4.52 TSH level my doctor prescribed me Thyronorm 12.5 mg. After consuming it since last 15 days, my hair fall has increased all the more and I am not having my periods regularly too (which was not the case earlier). Should I stop consuming Thyronorm and start homeopathic medicine.

Brief Answer:
Further investigations are required

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma'am

I can certainly understand your concern

I have worked through your attached query in detail

Hairfall and menstrual cycle irregularities are not always related to thyroid issues.

You don't require treatment with thyroxine if the values of TSH are within normal limits.

Homeopathic medications have role in your case irrespective of the thyroid status.

You require further evaluation of your condition.

You require the following tests

1. Complete blood count
2. Ultrasound abdomen scan
3. Repeat Thyroid profile ( T3, T4, TSH)

Anemia and ovarian disorder should be first ruled out through appropriate tests.

Further management if any is largely based on test reports.

As my TSH level is 4.52, t3 is 100 and t4 as 6.8, it could be that my doctor is unnecessarily prescribing me to have Thronorm 12.5mg. So, can I immediately stop consuming Thyronorm 12.5mg as my TSH is within normal range. Will this immediate pause in medicine consumption put me through some risk?

As I have already taken Thyronorm 12.5mg for around 15 days despite my TSH being within normal range, will it put me through some negative health conditions hereon.

I am also regularly having Dexorange tonic(for haemoglobin issues) since April'18. Can I continue having Dexorange?

Brief Answer:
Repeat testing before taking final call.

Yes, thyroxine supplementation is unnecessary if you are not diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

You can stop intake of Thyroxine 12.5 mcg from immediate effect, but prior to which I advise you to take up the test again on fasting sample.

Dexorange is an iron supplement whose requirement ends if hemoglobin levels are within normal limits.

So please take up hemoglobin testing once.
