FOR Dr. Olgeta Xhufka (If Possible) Last Week I Have

last week i have sent/discussed you some of my medical test reports( again attached kindly review for answers). After the reports i visited my doctor again for prescriptions and his response on medical reports. Doctor said everything is ok but your LDL is little bit high at 111 , and all other test are perfect. even he said if hba1c below 6 we dont recomend medications. i explained him that 8 month back when i was diagnosed with diabetes i was at 9.6 level of hba1c. then he said you should take 500 mg of metformin once in 24 hours. ( in my last visit doctor give me 750 mg once a day but i was taking half tablet means i was taking near about 400mg/day)
he give me also medication for cholesterol and all of my medications are given below
metformin 500mg 1/day
mecobalamin 500 μgram 1 /day
Ezetimibe 10mg 1/day
now i have some questions,
1) as you said i can control 111 of ldl with exercise and diet then why he gave me medicine?
2) Is it possible in future that i can come out from medications?
3) in your last answer you said it takes a long time to damage nerves and kidney with diabetes , but doctor can you please tell me what level of hba1c is considered good for longer healthy organs?
You may come out of medications if you have healthy lifestyle.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear Ranamuqradir, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
1. I still think you can manage the ldl levels without medications but only by diet and exercising.
He has given you vitamin B12 for tingling in legs and you can take it.
You are having good sugar levels taking metformin also.
I think you may need to take it even for some more months.
You may check sugar levels, hba1c levels and of they are good you can decrease and stop metformin.
2. It is possible that you come out of medications only by having a healthy lifestyle.
3. Hba1c may need to be below 5.7% in order not to cause any damages in organs.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
