Brief Answer:
It is unlikely this is a rectocele, other possible causes explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome at "Ask a Doctor" service,

I carefully read your query and here is my advice:
Rectocele is generally a big soft bulge in the vagina. The fact that you feel a hard lump does not seem to be a rectocele. Rectocele is expected to be seen mostly in older women, pretty close to menopause due to multiple vaginal births, overweight and laxity of the pelvic structures from lack of estrogen (female hormones).
So, because you are quite young and the lump is hard it is unlikely it is a rectocele.

On the other hand there are several other possible causes for the firm lump. A vaginal cyst is a very possible cause and is generally not something to worry about.
Sometimes a lump in that area might be due to sutures that repair tears after vaginal delivery (this is the case after vaginal deliveries)
Another possible cause can be genital warts.

To make sure of the diagnosis it is important to have a gynecological visit where the doctor will be able to examine you with a light and visualize the lump. This is generally sufficient to reach into a diagnosis and to determine if further treatment or follow up is needed.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

thank you for your reply, the tiny hard bump feels like it is on the other side of the vaginal wall. I often can feel stool through my vagina and have a long history of straining for bowel movements. I don't know wether this tiny bump could be something stuck in my rectum or wether it could be something else

Brief Answer:
Presence of stools in the vagina can be due to rectovaginal fistula

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,

If you feel stool through your vagina very likely you are having a rectovaginal fistula. This is a tinny communication between the rectum (the lower part of the bowel) and the vagina.

In this case a vaginal examination is indicated which might identify the fistula but in some cases it is difficult to visualize it and the doctor might need other tests (imaging tests like examination with barium or CT/MRI) to diagnose it.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
