Good Afternoon, I Had An Episode About 4years Ago Of

Question: Good Afternoon,
I had an episode about 4years ago of severe burning in the vulva. After many trips to different GPs they decided that it was nerve pain and over sensitive nerves. I was prescribed 20mg amytripteline and anesthetic gel. After couple of months it went totally but I was advised o keep taking the amytripteline and put the dose down to 10mg. I looked on the internet for what this may be and saw a whole string of depressing sites about vulvodynia and chronic pain. I was totally without any pain for 4 yrs until now. it is slightly better today and I am wondering if this could be the above and if so I am in some sort of flare. do you know anything about this ? any advise would be realyy helpful

Brief Answer:
Can be mild form of vulvodynia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have gone through your query and understand your health concerns ,
The pain in the vulva that you are feeling can be a mild form of vulvodynia. This can be due to a mild nerve root compression at the level of lower lumbar spine also. Amitryptaline and methylcobalamin supplements can effectively treat a flare up. In case these do help then you can get stronger medicines like Gabapentin prescribed by your neurologist.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Thank you I have been taking amitripyline for a few years only at 20mg and I thought that is what had kept this from re occurring which was why I was so upset when it came back I did not realise it could just flare up for no reason. It is driving me crazy today I cannot seen to get any relief from the itching and burning but last night I had no symptoms at all . Is this normal for a flare and how long in your knowledge can they last I feel panicked that it could last forever or am I being a little paranoid? Can I up the dose of amitripilyne or is that not safe to do ? I’d this likely to go away ?

Brief Answer:
Methylcobalamin supplements can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The flare ups can happen due to mild nerve irritation or compression. They can last till the inflammation subsides. You need to add an anti inflammatory medicine and methylcobalamin supplements to help the flare up subside. Avoid increasing the dose of amitryptalin without consulting your doctor.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Flare ups can be controlled with medicines.

Detailed Answer:
The flare ups can be intermittent and can happen for a long term but these can be controlled with the help of medicines. You need not worry. Do start with methylcobalamin supplements after getting your vitamin B 12 levels evaluated.

Brief Answer:
Local moisturizing gel can help.

Detailed Answer:
The itching and burning is also related to the neural cause. This can also subside with regular use of moisturizing gel like aloe vera gel or vaseline.

Brief Answer:
You are welcome.

Detailed Answer:
This will subside after a few days. A flare up can happen after weeks or months and the flare up cannot be predicted. The flare up may not happen again but it is very difficult to say if this will happen or not.

Stupidly went onto a support network for this and there were some very very scary stories about people commiting suicide due to this, I do not have theses feelings but just need the reassurance that it is something that will not stay forever and there are treatments for it when it flares up. can you put my mind to rest? do you think theses people are depressed with other issues?

Brief Answer:
Flare ups can be treated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Your problem is not so serious so as to commit a suicide. All the people in the support network do not have the same severity of problems and can have other problems too. You need not worry. The occasional flare ups that you have can be well treated with the help of medicines.
No need to worry.
Best regards.
