Good Afternoon I Am A 58 Year Old Women Who

Question: Good Afternoon i am a 58 year old women who has had a total abominal hysterectomy about 27 years ago do to endometriosis. When i went back for a check up they realized that a piece of my right ovary was left very small piece which they said was good so that i can have my own estrogen. So over the years i have been fine every pap smear was normal i have my cervix and internal exam was all fine. Last month i have some vaginal burning which we dont know yet if it was from a UTI infection and from antibiotics but i was told to leave the vaginal area alone and put some Desitin in the burning area. Well i did and everything went away. So I woke up this morning and had some burning or irritation again in the vaginal area. Again i put some Desiin and it feels better.I never have any discharge, bleeding foul smell but I do notice i feel very dry in this area. Mt question is what do think this could be and could this be the start or menopause for me. I never went thur hot flashes or anything but this is very new to me as i have never had any vaginal issue in my life. Could this be something bad or just getting old. Please let me know your thoughts. thx so much !
Brief Answer:
Vaginal atrophy possible.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think this can be related to menopause.
I think you went through menopause around 50 and being for 7-8 years on menopause and hormonal deficiency may have caused vaginal atrophy.
Also not having a sexual partner may contribute to vaginal atrophy.
Burning and itching may be symptoms of atrophy.
The piece of left ovary may not be enough to fullfil the hormonal needs.
Hope I have answered the question.

There are not sufficient symptoms to suspect cancer.

Thank you Dr. Will this happened everyday or is this something that happens once in awhile? So you think I went thru menopause I had no symptoms. Also when this burning happens I feel like I have a fever but I dont is this part of that. Thus vaginal atrophy makes you not feel well is this true
Brief Answer:
Can you specify it better?
Detailed Answer:
I want you to specify something.
You are saying that you have burning sensation in vagina ,is it outside or inside it?
If it is outside then how does the skin looks?
I thought of vaginal atrophy referring to burning sensation and discomfort inside vaginal walls.
Also taking count of your history of hysterectomy and only one ovary left it could be estrogen insufficiency.
Using lubrication gel may relieve discomfort.
If the burning is on outside and the redness too it can be related to fungal infection.
In this case antifungal ointment may be used such clotrimazole ointment.
Also washing with gentle soap and drying well is needed.
