Lactulose is used to reduce the amount of ammonia in the blood of patients with liver disease. It works by drawing ammonia from the blood into the colon where it is removed from the body. Hence it is given.
Secondly Rifaximin 550 mg and not amoxy clauv should be taken in case of hepatic encephalopathy.
Lactulose life long.
Rifaximin 4-6 months.
Discuss this with your doctor.
