Question: Good morning Doc, Hope all is well by you. I woke up at 4am with I would say right shoulder pain and triggered when I move neck to the right as it hurts more , I feel my pain. I sleep with the fan on as I am used to the sound ( it's cold here ) I don't if this is relevant. Probably just sleeping in the wrong position? I don't know just guessing. Any opinion here doc? Thanks regards Aryeh

Brief Answer:
Torticollis
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for using "Ask a doctor" service.
It happens very often that in the circumstances that you describe many people get a torticollis (the side muscle of the neck is frozen/inflamed. Certainly the position has caused it, in combination with the cold wind of the fan.
I recommend:
- Take Ibuprofen 400mg every 6 hours for 2-3 days.
- Have a shower with the position of the water stream in the neck side that is painful.
- Apply local analgesic cream 3-4 times per day and massage gently.
In 2-3 days it should go away.
Hope this is helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Dr. Klarida Papaqako, General and Family physician.

Hey Doc thanks for the answer. I couldn't go back to sleep. The pain is triggered much more when I move my neck to the right. Pain like this is impossible to bear. Couldn't go back to sleep on either side. Left or right. Is that normal? I took two Paracetamol but that didn't help:(. Thanks for advice. Anything else?

Brief Answer:
Have a shower
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Yes I know, it can be a very strong pain.
But what I said above- have a shower to release the muscle.
Also paracetamol does not help much. Take also one Ibuprofen because you need to decrease the inflammation. You can take one now still even if you have just taken paracetamol.
Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.
Kind regards,
Dr.Papaqako

Hey Doc So this morning was tricky and seems to feel a little better but that's tricky. Saw a chiropractor who is near me so he said it's probably a Facet but he was careful like a disk because it's hard to diagnose. Opinion here? Hope this goes away soon:( Warm regards

Brief Answer:
Just keep using Advil 400-600mg every 6 hours.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Glad you feel a little bit better.
A problem with a disc usually start after lifting weights or doing a tricky movement. I understand in your case this started while you were sleeping. So I don't think it is a disk problem but more something muscular. That is why I am positive that you will be better within 3-4 days.
Just go on being XXXXXXX as much as you can, slowly and gradually, without triggering the pain.
Continue taking advil 400-600mg, every 6 hours. This will help decreasing the inflammation.
Use also a local analgesic cream 3-4 times per day.
These are my advises and I hope to hear good news from you soon.
Kind regards,
Dr. Papaqako

Hey Doc Yes I agree regarding the disk and I when I was sleeping, I didn't do damage. If I sneeze? It kills and if I cough it hurts less by the neck area. I am doing what u say so hopefully I will get better soon.
