Good Morning! I Was Diagnosed With Low Testosterone In 2009,

Question: Good morning! I was diagnosed with low testosterone in 2009, and have been on testosterone replacement therapy since then, in the form of a topical gel. I have noticed in the last few years that it seems to have lost its efficacy, as my sex drive has declined significantly, I have had problems with maintaining erection, and have become ever more moody, grumpy and irritable. Before Covid hit, I was seeing an endocrinologist in Spain (where I lived) who ordered labs. I was able to get the labs prior to Covid hitting but since then have not been able to see an Endocrinologist. My free testosterone measured at 10.5 pg/mL. While it looks as if this was in the reference frame they put on their lab results sheet (which they quoted as 6.1-25.7 pg/mL), everything I read indicates to me that this is spectacularly low, and outside of the normal range (I read yesterday for adults males a normal range would be 50-250 pg/mL). Can you please shed some light for me? This condition has really diminished my quality of life, and I'm still a fairly young and healthy man otherwise (I am 55 years old and in reasonably good shape). Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Change the form of TRT

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have gone through your query and understood your concern.

If you think that your testosteron gel is not effective any more, than i suggest to change the form or type of your testosteron replacement therapy.

Apart topical forms, there are injections(testosteron shots),nasal spray, patch, implantable pellets and even gums with testosteron.

Regarding your test results, i want to underline that every lab has his reference range and if your results are within these reference range ,this means that your resuls are Ok.

At the other side you have symptoms of low testosteron, for this reason ,if you were my patient i will suggest you to repeat the testosteron tests in another certified lab.(before we decide to change the type of your testosteron supplement).

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if i can assist you further.
Wish you good health.
