Question: Got a high white blood cell count of 12.1 is that normal?

Also I have a bite above collar bone and in the middle of the chest.Like a bullseye mark on the bite area.
Could have been a brown recluse spider?
is it normal to have swollen lymph nodes and go through all of those symptoms?
And could high white blood cells 12.1 mean a disease or infection?

Brief Answer:
Differential count needed, Aspiration cytology of lymph nodes suggested
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on Ask A Doctor forum.
The white blood cell count (WBC) is slightly raised.
However differential count is needed to know the possible cause of WBC increased.
Spider bite can lead to redness, itching, pain on site of bite.
If the symptoms are severe, I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for prescription of anti histaminics.
Enlarged lymph node can occur due to various causes like infection, inflammation or neoplasm.
I suggest you to get an aspiration cytology from the lymph node to know the exact nature of the lesions.
Spider bite is unlikely to cause enlargement of lymph nodes so fast existing flu indicates a viral infection and thus this may be the cause of enlarged lymph nodes.
However, aspiration cytology is suggested.
Thanks and take care

Brief Answer:
FNAC is a day procedure. You may get tested for corona virus if required
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
FNAC is a day procedure wherein the cells are aspirated from the lymph node to ascertain the nature of cells and probable cause of enlargement of lymph node.
The tissue is not removed in FNAC.
The enlarged lymph node can be due to flu, however, these symptoms are not specific for corona virus infection.
In case you have symptoms like fever and breathlessness, you need to consult your physician and get tested for corona infection.
