Question: HI
I am 72 - very healthy - have an asymptomatic stenosis of one of the tricuspid valves - I am fit - mountain bike 15 to 20 km a day - race in whitewater kayaking - 185 lbs - 5 ft 10 in. How much do I need to worry about getting Covid 19?

My wife is 73 - healthy but had polio and does not have full lung capacity - has ankolosis spondolitis under control with medication - how about her - how much to worry?

If isolation is relaxed here in Canada should we still maintain isolation as much as we can?
thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Yes better to extend isolation time a little more

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in 'Ask A Doctor' service,

I can understand your concern.

According to your condition and especially your wife's health status, I recommend you keep social distancing as much as you can. This means that you can go out but try to stay away from others for approximately 1-1.30 meters. When you go to buy you should wear a mask and gloves. These are the general rules for all populations and especially persons of your age. It is highly recommended also not to go to other relative's homes or friends.

So, in conclusion, both of you try to avoid close contact with other persons and keep a safe distance from them. You will be safe then.

Yes, isolation helps you to be safe however the above rules are more helpful in a long time.
