HI I Was Treated For Epididimytis (sorry Not Sure Of
Question: HI
I was treated for epididimytis (sorry not sure of spelling) with a sulfa antibiotic. I had a terrible sore throat, mouth sores and tongue turned white - consensus is this was a reaction to the antibiotic so I stopped taking it. I later saw my urologist and he said I could not have had epydidimitis because he had performed a prostatectomy and sealed off the connections. Questions 1) is this correct? My epid. as still mildly sore and perhaps one night a week I get a sharp pain that seems to start in the testicle and shoot up into my lower abdomen from one of both testicles. Question 2) any idea what this is and should I be concerned?
thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You can definitely get epididymitis
Detailed Answer:
Hi Huntervg,
A prostatectomy does not prevent you from epididymitis, so that can still be the case. I suggest you repeat the urinalysis and urine culture/urethral swap and have an ultrasound of your testes.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions.

Hi
Very interesting! Several people have told me my urologist is one of the best surgeons in North XXXXXXX He said he knew I did not have epid. because he cut off the connections and only some really serious kind of epid. is possible that is nearly fatal.
Is the symptom of shooting pain up into lower abdomen a sign of epid. ?
thanks again XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
An ultrasound will give the diagnosis
Detailed Answer:
Hi again XXXXXXX
I agree that epididymitis is very unlikely, but considering your symptoms, every differential diagnosis should be kept in mind. In any case, an ultrasound of your testes will help give the diagnosis, e.g. epididymitis, spermatocele, hydrocele, inguinoscrotal hernia, etc.
Have you had symptoms from your testes such as pain and swelling?

HI
They are sometimes a bit tender when tapped - my doctor palpated the epid. and they hurt. I don't think any swelling. I do alot of bike riding.
thanks again

Brief Answer:
I suggest an ultrasound
Detailed Answer:
Hi, again XXXXXXX
Bike riding certainly can cause testicular tenderness, but an ultrasound can help diagnose any pathology. It sounds completely benign, but I suggest an ultrasound to be sure.
Best wishes.
