Had CT Scan Of Brain. What Are The Findings From The Report?
Question: Hi! Iam 65 years old and had a CT scan of the brain and the impression reads as follows:
There is no evidence of encephalomalacia, space occupying process or intracranial hemorrhage.
Bone windows show that the calvarium is intact. No fluid seen in the mastoid air cells or middle ears to suggest otomastoiditis.
In the subcutaneous fat of the right posteroparietal region there is a 6mm perhaps partially calcified nodular density.
Impression:
1. Involutional changes of aging.
2. Atherosclerotic disease.

1. There is no evidence of encephalomalacia, space occupying process or intracranial hemorrhage
This means there is no bleeding, tumor or destruction of brain tissue.
2. Bone windows show that the calvarium is intact. No fluid seen in the mastoid air cells or middle ears to suggest otomastoiditis.
The skull is normal in appearance. There is no sign of ear infection on CT scan.
3. In the subcutaneous fat of the right posteroparietal region there is a 6mm perhaps partially calcified nodular density.
There is a small calcification under the skin on back side of the scalp to the right. This is probably normal small vessel change due to aging.
Impression:
Involutional changes of aging: Means changes seen in normal brain at age 65 years due to aging process and is normal.
Atherosclerotic disease: This is little thickening of blood vessel walls and is seen with advancing age.
Please do not worry about the result of CT scan. Things are as they should be and reflect changes due to aging and are acceptable.
