Had A Seizure And Sustained Additional Fractures On Back. Suffered Paralysis In Lower Legs And Ankles Are Swollen. Need Advise?
Your leg is not the cause for seizures.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I understand your concern and am happy to help you.
From what I could understand from the description, you seem to be asking the question, "did the problem (that is the swelling of the left leg) cause the seizure?"
No is the simple answer I can give for that question, but I would like you to clarify if that is what you are asking.
Seizures are basically an altered and uncontrolled electrical activity of the brain and the cause for this uncontrolled electrical activity could be,.
1. Inherent brain disease, that is to say, the electrical activity of your brain is such that it is predisposed for seizure disorder.
2. Brain tumors.
3. Metabolic disorders such as electrolyte imbalances, hyper/hypo glycemia(increased or decreased blood glucose levels), elevated urea levels, liver cell failure etc.,
The treatment in each condition is obviously different.
As for the spinal fracture, if you give enough time, they would automatically heal on their own, but you would have to be on the bed without moving throughout the healing process without moving.
I am not very sure I understood what you exactly mean by the leg swelling and anklet, hence I request you to kindly elaborate on that, when did it start, do you have any kidney or heart related issue, how did the swelling start, did you have any infection or redness and pain in the leg... so on.
I would explain further once you write back to me with the answers.
Awaiting your response.
Warm regards.
Probably the culprit is not the anklet.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX
Thanks for clarifying that.
I do not think the anklet was the cause for the swelling of your leg. I suspect the paralysis itself could have caused the swelling.
The nerves control the blood vessels along with the rest of the body, so when you had had the paralysis due to spinal fracture, the autonomic nerves that control the blood vessels could have been irritated, specifically those that control your affected leg, hence causing an uncontrolled seepage of fluids out of the blood vessels leading to swelling, redness and pain.
The other possibility is infection. A local infection of the subcutaneous tissue in your leg might have been infected, this type of infection can also cause gross swelling, pain and redness.
The anklet could also contribute to this by evoking an allergic reaction to what ever metal was it was made of.
Or all these could have contributed to varying degree.
Some other causes for unilateral(One sided) leg swelling are.
1. Deep vein thrombosis.
2. Trauma.
I hope this answers your query effectively. Please feel free to write back if you need any clarification.
Wishing you good health.
Kind regards,
