Question: Had a total hip replacement in December 2018. Been having problems from groin downward of upper thigh. Very painful when lifting the leg. Its been determined it's not a back problem. Had EMG states "possible meralgia paresthetica". Had Fluroscope done drained fluid sent to lab. Should/can laproscopy procedure be done to remove scar tissue in the area of hip replacement?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Arthroscopy is difficult.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Meralgia paresthetica refers to the mild nerve irritation or compression that causes an altered sensations or pain in the thigh. This can happen due to an abnormal scar tissue after a hip replacement. Local steroid injections can help in reducing the inflammation and nerve compression.
Arthroscopic procedure is difficult to perform in case of an extensive scarring but can be tried depending on the situation.
Taking methylcobalamin supplements and medicines like Gabapentin can also help in improving the symptoms.
I hope this answers your query.
