Mycobacterium gordonae is commonly found in tap water and soil. Widely distributed in environment and usually a contaminant in laboratory specimens. Casual resident in human sputum and gastric lavage specimens.Rarely involve in disease processes even if patients are immunocompromised.
Very few cases have been noted so for with this infection, and mainly in those who have any antecedent pulmonary abnormality including a history of infection with tuberculosis, pulmonary malignancy, chronic bronchitis and smoking.Spreads by droplet infection as its a respiratory infection
It presents as cough, weight loss, dyspnea, hemoptysis and fever. A variety of radiographic finding are possible including pulmonary nodules, cavities, infiltrates, bronchiectasis and consolidation.
Treatable condition, responds to antibiotics.
As such there are no known side effects or long term effects.
