Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for posting your query.
What medicines are you taking for depression?
Do you have pain during swallowing?
Are you getting any fever/ running nose/ throat congestion?
Difficulty in eating may be due to dryness of mouth and upper gasto-intestinal (UGI) tract, ulcers in UGI tract and pharynigitis/ tonsillitis, foreign body impaction.
Preence os choking and coughing indicates epigottic opening also.
As such there is no correlation between Hashimoto's disease and dryness of mouth.
Yes...few medication in psychiatry may cause dryness of mouth.
You should consult with physician and ENT surgeon and should go for throat examination & chest examination.
If pharyngitis is present then you should take antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and decongestants for rapid recovery.
If thraot examination is normal and there is no ENT disease then you should go for endoscopy for esophagus examination.
You may have foreign body impaction/ esophageal ulcers/ gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD).
In GERD, there may be throat irritation because of reflux of acid.
You should take porton pump inhibitors along with prokinetics on written prescription.
You should also get thorough check up of your chest by physician as you may have obstructive lung disease such as asthma. In asthma, patient may have cough with choking feeling.
Put your queries if you have.
Take care,
Dr.Mayank Bhargava
