Have Migraine. What Is The Best Medicine?
Question: I have a migraine and would like to know what is the best medicine for such bad headache.
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
For migraine, two types of treatment are required. First, for acute headaches, pain relieving medications are given. Second, medications are used to prevent the recurrence of headaches.
For the first category, rizatriptan and sumatriptan are excellent medications, and they provide good relief from acute headaches.
For reducing the frequency and severity of headaches, medications include Topiramate, beta blockers, divalproex, flunarizine, etc.
For chronic migraine (more than 15 days of headaches per month), Botox injections are useful.
I hope it helps. Please get back if you have any more queries.
