Have Multiple Lumps On Hands And Legs, Causing Numbness And Pain. Suggest?
Thanks for posting your query at XXXXXXX forum.
I can understand your concern.
At present nothing to be worried about. The sites of your swellings as evident from the images, are not sites of lymph node swelling.
Now a clinical examination is necessary to get the exact idea about the swelling.
Special features like-
Number, sites, associated tenderness, mobility, condition of overlying skin, consistency, margin and shape of the swelling should be clinically assessed.
As you have got the history of 15 years most of the serious diagnosis can be ruled out.
Possibilities in your case may be multiple neurofibromas (neurofibromatosis) or lipomas.
Those can be differentiated by clinical examination but verification can be done by histopathological examination.
Anyway, both of them are almost benign entity, nothing to be worried. Consult a general surgeon he/ she will guide you better. Take care. I will be available for follow up.
Diagnosis of the type of swelling can be done by biopsy.
Anyway , neurofibromatosis can be of two types.
Type 1 can be diagnosed if
6 or more cafe au lait ( skin spots ) spots that are more than 1.5 cm in diameter.
Two or more neurofibromas of any type or one or more plexiform neurofibroma.
Freckling in the armpit or groin
Optic glioma (tumor of the optic pathway)
Two or more Lisch nodules
A first-degree relative with NF1 (neurofibromatosis 1)
I am not mentioning type 2 because your symptoms not matched with it.
The above mentioned criteria are difficult to understand so it is better to consult a surgeon he/she will perform simple test like biopsy and can give you more information.take care.
