Charcots foot is :- Progressive degeneration of a weight bearing joint, a process marked by bony destruction, bone resorption, and eventual deformity.

Diabetes is the foremost cause for neuropathic joint disease, and the foot is the most affected region.
Affacted Joints:-
-60% are in the tarsometatarsal joints
-30% Metatarsophalangeal joints and
-10% have ankle disease.
Over half of diabetic patients with neuropathic joints can recall some kind of precipitating trauma, usually minor.
Clinical Presentation :-
-Mild swelling to severe swelling
-Deformity.
-Inflammation, erythema, pain and increased skin temperature
-Plantar ulcers may be present
-X-rays may reveal bone resorption and degenerative changes in the joint.
These findings in the presence of intact skin and loss of protective sensation are pathognomonic of acute Charcot arthropathy.
Roughly 75% of patients experience pain, but pain severity is less than the severity of the lesion.
So its always advisable to look their foot in mirror daily to check for any minor foot ulcers, any lose of sensation or deformity. If you notice any above mentioned changes consult your treating Physician ASAP.
Maintaining strict glycemia, wearing protective foot wear is very importanat in preventing the diabetic neuropathy complications.

Charcots is rare in hands, because it affects mainly the weight bearing joints. So your symptoms may not be related to charcots but possibility of muscle weakness.
For this you consult your treating physician for better evaluation.
