Having PCOS, Hypothyroidism. Severe Hair Loss. Is Aminexil Helpful For Female Baldness?
Question: What do you think/know about aminexil for female baldness? Does it help grow hairs or only slows down the loss? Is there anything else that works better or has been studied?
I am 37, mild PCOS (DHEAS 470, all other hormones wnl), mild hypothyroidism being treated (can the treatment itself result in hair loss?), all vitamins wnl, not on OCPs. Have thinning up top.
Also, if you have any recommendations on how to look for a hair specialist (not just a transplant dermatologist) - it would be helpful.
Thanks beforehand!

Dear,
Thanks for your query.
Hair-fall with hormonal imbalance is common.
Hair-fall might result from hormonal imbalance, dieting, nutritional deficiency, diseases, drugs etc.
A detailed examination is a must before concluding the cause of hair-fall.
Amenil is a drug that has been used in hair-fall therapies but alone is not of much benefit.
Minoxidil remains the main drug to counter hair-fall and other drugs can be applied along with it.
Oral supplementation with biotin, calcium pentothenate, etc is also required in controlling hair-fall.
A visit at a dermatologist is a must before starting the treatment.
