Question: Having intermitten back and hip pain. When I stand for long periods of time hour or so, my lower back aches and my lower pelvis aches too. I noticed when moving boxes that when I try to step up with left leg carrying weight (like groceries or under 50lb boxes) it almost feels like I cannot step up on it, like my hip/thigh groans and then takes weight, but almost feels like cannot do it

Brief Answer:
Sciatica or Coxarthrosis to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, you should get evaluated further by your Doctor since your symptoms worsen with certain positions and there is no sufficient after stretching, resting and Aleve use.

Conditions such as coxarthrosis, sciatica, spondylolisthesis (vertebral instability) should be evaluated and investigated further.

Besides medical examination by your Doctor, imaging studies of the pelvis and lumbosacral column (X-rays, MRI ) may be necessary in order to achieve a correct understanding of your condition.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.

Noticed this happening more and more frequently over last 4 mths. I'm in menopause and my job is requiring a lot of travel. When I'm sitting, walking and moving doesn't bother me, horse back riding doesn't bother me, wearing high heels doesn't bother me, but now feet swollen at end of day and when working from home wearing no shoes every other week and that's when I notice the most. Had foot surgery in XXXXXXX to remove 2nd bunion, 1st done 2013, no issues. Sit a lot for work now 9-12hrs per day and trying to stand but starts to really hurt after about an hour and have to bend and stretch to alleviate pain. Minor tasks like folding laundry, doing dishes and preparing food really bothering me. We've been moving for past month from one house to another so lifting boxes with legs and feeling like I cannot lift weight up a step and legs feel heavy or weak. Really bothered me carrying several bags of groceries up 6 steps, ouch and I thought that's weird. My pain threshold is high and I thought that is odd, cause I'm strong and active and not overweight. Made appt with general practice doctor for Friday but not sure if she'll recommend xrays. Wondering if some other cause. I'm tracking what you're saying and thinking maybe slipped disc or something I've ruptured. Was bucked off horse like 8-10 mths ago, but just sore, bruised left hip & shoulder and aches in left chest area and didn't hurt after about 2mths, just started getting steadily worse in last few months. Notice even when I sleep on memory foam mattress, can wake up aching hips/back. Been feeling like low energy and achy wrists, hands, hips, ankles. Active, not as active since foot surgery, but outside gardening, horse chores, throwing hay, walking, unpacking boxes, these don't bother me until I stand in same place for some time doing something with upper body. Noticed in last week that sex causes pain in my lower back too, so feeling like something is out of whack.

Brief Answer:
Trauma reinforces these possible diagnoses.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and thanks for the additional information.

Since there is a traumatic event in the past months, this reinforces the possibility of coxarthrosis and lumbar spine issues.

I'd suggest you mention our discussions to your Doctor at your appointment on Friday.

I think your Doctor will also agree that there is a need for imaging studies besides clinical evaluation in order to get a correct diagnosis.

Hope this helps.

Greetings.
