Thanks for writing to us.
From your given history, I can assume that you are currently suffering from recurrent vaginal infection which gives rise to above said clinical feature. Most common causes are vaginal yeast infection or trichomoniasis though it should be confirmed through medical tests.
In this context, you need to eliminate certain predisposing factors like:
1) Diabetes by undergoing one blood sugar (PPBS) test.
2) Presence of any STD by undergoing complete STD panel.
3) Using hormonal pills/ IUD or inserting foreign objects (like tampon etc).
4) Other co-existence factors: frequent sexual intercourse, irregular diet habit, hormonal imbalance (in pre-menopausal age), poor genital hygiene, cervicitis/ vaginitis etc.
It may be aggravated by using chemical substance like lubricant/ jelly during sex or soap/ detergent/ other bath products or cosmetics, causing repeated friction & irritation inside vagina. It may extend labial swelling.
In this scenario, you must consult with a gynecologist for pelvic examination (with or without speculum) and relevant investigation (like vaginal swab test, urine examination, hormone assay etc) to pin point the diagnosis.
You may require proper antibiotic treatment and vaginal suppository at bed time to get relief. Treatment should be started one week prior to your period. Take prescribed medicine from your treating doctor.
General guideline for healthy life style to prevent future recurrence:
1) Take healthy diet with anti oxidant (like Vit-E, selenium, zinc, lycopene etc) supplements. Drink plenty of water/ juice for better systemic circulation.
2) Do not touch/ wipe out genital area too much. Also avoid inserting objects or douching inside vagina.
3) Maintain genital hygiene during period time. Do regular physical exercise for weight control by means of jogging/ walking/ treadmill etc.
4) Wear only clean & cotton underwear. Don't wear any tight fitting cloths or pants to avoid repeated friction/ irritation.
5) Avoid using any type of chemical cosmetics or soap or condoms. Try to avoid any type of sexual activity for at least 4 weeks.
6) Avoid stress/ tension/ mental upset by regular deep breathing (20-30 times)/ yoga. Take a sound sleep for complete relaxation.
Hope, it helps for your information. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Wish your good health and take care yourself.
