Question: He is to undergo bonemarrow transplant and the donor is his sister / brother. Sister's bone marrow has been a perfect match so far. I would like to know the basic guidelines to look out for during transplant, what are the risks and what precautions should we take and what should be avoided. To make this go smooth, without risks, can you please give some suggestions doctor? It will help us a lot.

Brief Answer:
Important to talk to treating physician

Detailed Answer:
Hi ,

I am sorry to hear about your troubles. First of all, do you not have the possibility to talk to the treating physician? The procedure may vary slightly from country to country, but overall, it is important to look for graft versus host reactions, e.g. skin reactions, diarrhea, but also side effects to immune suppression, e.g. fever, cough, headache, etc. I would advice that the person stay at home with just one person and that both are regularly checked for covid 19.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Doctor,

Thank you for the inputs. Yes, a good physician team are treating him. Myself and his family are a little anxious on the procedure and we just need an expert guidance to make sure we do not create any room for risks here. Thank you for the information and if there is any material available for general guidelines to be put into practice, Please let us know.

Thanks,
Pastina

Hi again Pastina,

No problem, glad I could help. Typically, the treating physician or department has easy to understand pamphlets, so I suggest you try collect them from the medical center where the patient is being treated.

Best of luck.
