Question: Hello - I need help identifying a potential cause and solution to the issues I am having. I am going to do this in list form to make it easier.

PROBLEMS:
- Chronic fatigue (wake up exhausted, never experience restful sleep or much alertness, brain fog, etc - unrelenting. I feel like I sleep through the night without waking up. I took a sleep study and was diagnosed with narcolepsy and minor sleep apnea, but I do not believe in that diagnosis at this time as I think other issues could be causing this)

- Depression (I have always struggled with this, but I believe the above issue is causing a lot of it)

- Medication efficacy issues (seems like drugs taken in pill forms do not work well if at all. Currently prescribed the highest dose of Modafanil and it is not working at all; had the same experience with other stimulants, anti depressants, and pain pills).

- Chronic canker sores (I get these regularly and it is less likely for me to not have one vs having one or more. Occasionally, I will get large ones that are extremely painful. )

- Chronic nasal congestion due to deviated septum (was diagnosed with deviated septum years ago and didn't fix it. Have had two facial injuries that I believe made it worse. My current theory is that this is the primary cause of the above issues, but would love another opinion. I can never breathe through my nose. I think I get sick more often and have worse symptoms due to this.

These are making my life very difficult and I need some kind of clarity on what to do. I have an appointment with a local ENT but before he pushes me to surgically repair my nose I would like to get an opinion on other reasons for my issues.

Also, in the semi-recent past, I have had bloodwork done to test for deficiencies and other causes, and there apparently hasn't been any conclusive find from that.

Brief Answer:
You need surgery for DNS for sure.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the detailed history you have given.
First thing is for sure that you need surgery for DNS.
So get it done as soon as possible.
Your rest all symptoms are psychological because your blood reports are normal.
So try to meet good psychiatrist and get done counselling sessions along with medicines because counseling plays very important role.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

But it could in theory be disrupting my sleep by making breathing difficult without me being aware of it?

Brief Answer:
You have only mild sleep apnea.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
You already mentioned that you have only mild sleep apnea. This can not cause such symptoms.
If your sleep apnea is moderate to severe then you may have these symptoms.
Can you please send me your sleep study report?
And other blood reports

I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
