Hello. 5 Days Ago I Went To My Doctor For

Question: Hello. 5 days ago I went to my doctor for a physical exam, and to discuss anxiety that I've been struggling with and to discuss a small bump about the size of a small pea in the back of my throat. I was very concerned about the bump because I fist started feeling like there was something in the back of my throat about 2 weeks prior to my doctor visit. I have no trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking. There's no pain or redness, just an annoying, irritated feeling of something being stuck in the back of my throat. When the doctor looked at it, she told me it was my salivary gland and that it's nothing to be worried about and that I should use lemon drops. I can see the bump with a flashlight so I know that there is an actual bump in the back of my throat, and It's only on one side of my mouth. I still have the bump there 5 days after the visit while using lemon drops and gargling with warm salt water, and almost 3 weeks after I first started noticing something there. Is this a normal timeframe for something like this or should I seek further medical evaluation?

Brief Answer:
It can be unilateral tonsil enlargement. Detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to the 'Ask A Doctor service'.
I can understand your concern.

It can be unilateral tonsillar enlargement on one side of posterior pharynx.

You can be prescribed a one-week antibiotic course (eg. Tablet Co-Amoxiclav twice daily) by your doctor.

Meanwhile, continue salt water gargle and take vitamin C 500mg BD for a few days.

I suggest you consult nearby otorhinolaryngologist for detailed posterior pharynx examination.

If a clear photograph is available then you can post a photo of the swelling here also. Just upload/attach it to the 'Reports section' of this webpage so that I can review it further.

Hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards
