Hello, About A Year Ago I Was Diagnosed With Psoriasis
Question: Hello,
About a year ago I was diagnosed with Psoriasis. I have had on and off flare ups if you will over the past year. Recently I have been very stressed with work and had a flare up and noticed a patch or spot on my Genitals. This was very alarming to me as I wanted to make sure I did not have an STD. I went ahead and had a lab do a full STD Panel and the results came back positive for type 1 herpes. I know that a lot of people have this but with me being not very sexually active and always very careful I found this odd. My question for you is, could the flare up from the Psoriasis be on my genitals and could this of cause the positive result on the herpes blood test from the antibodies fighting the psoriasis instead of herpes?
Any expertise would be greatly appreciated as I do not have much knowledge on herpes.
Best, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
It is not related to psoriasis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
HSV is not related to psoriasis does not alter the HSV serology tests as well.
The antibodies against psoriasis and herpes are entirely different and thus an active psoriasis disease will not cause false positive test.
Psoriasis treatment makes your body immunologically weak, and thus severity of infection may be high in your case.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks
