Hello Doc, Today I Had An Doc Appointment For My
Question: Hello Doc, today I had an doc appointment for my 5 months old daughter. post examination it seems she has come refractive errors and needs glass. attaching her numbers. I have some basic questions. 1. how is her vision now based on the eye numbers. is her vision completely blur and can't see any shape properly. I mean does she see only hazy stuff and no clear image at all? 2. as she is 5 months can we not use glasses now because she is very small. and will not using glasses increase her number? and will not using glasses impact her brain development and learning and achieving milestones? 3. is there any treatment available at this age or at 1, 2 years of age to correct.

Hey thanks for the question . Refractive error is due the shape and length of the eyeball which is not same for everybody so some have glasses and some don't . If your baby wont wear glasses she wont be able to achieve full visual development plus chances of developing a permanent diminution ( amblyopia ) and chances of squint aka deviation of eyes is there . Its a myth that if we wear spectacle number the power will keep on increasing . The power will be change ( can increase or decrease) irrespective of whether you wear spectacles or not but if we don't wear spectacles at young age we might not get 100% vision as this is the age when vision develops . Lastly the only remedy for spectacle removal is Lasik surgery which is done after 18 years of age . Hope I have answered your questions .
