Question: Hello Doctor. Am 17 weeks pregnant with my second baby. Of late, I've been experiencing on n off pain n pressure in my lower abdomen n vagina... I went to my doctor. She did an internal exam and a scan to measure my cervix length. all turned out fine. She also did a urine test n culture. I've attached the reports. According to my reports, I have mild urine infection but she said that it can treated by drinking lots of water and medicines are not required. But since that time, I'm worried if this untreated infection might affect my unborn baby. Do I really not require treatment for this?

Brief Answer:
UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
There is an element of urinary tract infection present and if not getting treated with increased water intake , then you can be started on pregnancy safe antibiotic like tab nitrofurantoin 100mg twice a day for 7 days and then once a day till delivery. Persistent vaginal infection can also cause secondary urinary tract infection which can cause preterm labour in future. The baby usually do not get affected by urinary tract infection.
Wishing you good health,
Regards
