Brief Answer:
muscle wall weakness or incisional hernia at site of kidney surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query with attached images and here is my advise.

* The swelling over the operated part may be in concern with underlying
muscle wall weakness or developing incisional hernia.

Kindly give me further details so that I can answer your query more precisely.

1. Since how much time period, you have noticed the swelling at operative
site ?
2. Do you notice any changes in swelling, particularly when he changes
posture, lie down or else ?
3. Apart from pain, is there is any other symptoms at present such as
difficulty in urination, burning , fever ?
4. I have reviewed last blood reports, but is there any ultrasound report of
latest date available ?

Awaiting for your response.
Regards.

Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for the relevant details here.

* As there are no other symptoms apart from pain, issue sounds to be that of
soft tissue only.

* Even the Feb ultrasound report will also reveal many conclusions if available
please.

Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome for the follow up, I have seen your father`s ultrasound report.

* The report is showing no internal abnormality so far as the operated
portion of right kidney is concerned.

Hence, there is no threat of any development of incisional hernia till date.
We can consider this as non specific fullness of muscle weakness and has to give symptomatic relief therapy in case of more pain episodes.

* I do not think of any further relevant investigations at present.

Wish him good health.
Regards.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome for the follow up.

* Symptomatic relief does not need a hospital visit, and include

- local application of heating pad 5 minutes each twice a day
- local use of analgesic ointment or spray containing Diclofenac, Capsaicin,
Menthol with or without Camphor
- safest analgesic as per the age and conditions would be cetaaminophen or
paracetamol

Hello Doctor,
Thanks a lot for your help.

"give symptomatic relief therapy" should this therapy require a hospital visit or can it be done from home. Does it involve applying any cream / medicine that needs to be applied externally.

Thanks and Regards
