Dear Agnello,
A healthy and correct diet is very important for proper recovery after an Angioplasty. I am glad to know that you have already changed many habits for good!
The data provided by you indicates that your BMI is 21.7 Kg/m2, which when compared with the normal BMI range (18.5 – 24.9) indicates that you are under Normal range. You can try maintaining this weight by taking a Balanced Diet .Best is to divide the meals into smaller and frequent portions to get the maximum benefits from the meal. It helps, as the appetite is compromised in many cases.
The following considerations would help you plan the best diet:
• Take more fruits and vegetables, these are rich in fiber and provide important nutrients like vitamins and minerals.
• Use only low fat milk and its products.
• It is also important to avoid too much refined products.
• Avoid simple sugars and sugar containing foods.
• It is important to reduce the salt intake and that can be achieved by observing the following:
Read the labels to check the sodium content of the food item.
Avoid salted salads, pickles and papad.
Packaged and preserved foods have the sodium based preservatives. The intake of these should be avoided as far as possible.
Avoid taking the ready to eat snacks. These are generally from bakery, and thus are loaded with sodium.
• Fat is an important nutrient to consider. While some amount is important, you must completely avoid the fats like Dalda, Margarine, Hydrogenated vegetable oils etc. Healthier fats are an important part of your diet, but it’s still crucial to moderate your consumption of them because all fats are high in calories. You may consider using Coconut oil, Olive oil, Peanut oil etc.
• If you take non veg- then limit its intake to lean meat. Chicken, fish and eggs are safe.
• Carbonated and alcoholic beverages should be avoided as they contain high percentages of sugar and its derivatives.
Apart from diet, exercises are also important as it helps in faster recovery and also offers other benefits like better sleep, improved appetite, improved nutrient utilization and weight management. As you have already started the excecise (Walking), make sure that you continue doing them for as long as you feel comfortable. Never avoid taking rest if you feel breathless or stressed at any point while walking or when doing any other exercise.
*** Make sure that you take a Fruit ( 1 whole fruit like apple or orange OR ¾ cup Cut fruits like papaya or watermelon) and a glass of plain water at room temperature before starting the walk ,this would provide the necessary energy that you need to carry out the exercise.
Similarly, upon finishing the exercises, again take 2 glasses of plain water followed by 3 dates and 1 Egg white (Boiled/ Scrambled).
Sample Diet Plan:
Early Morning:
Lukewarm water with 1 tbsp. Chia seeds- 1 Glass
3 almonds and 1 walnut - presoaked
Breakfast:
Whole wheat bread - 2- slices + Egg Omlette-1 no OR vegetable poha, upma, XXXXXXX Sevian - 1 cup OR Idli - 2 no/ wheat dos a- 2 no with Sambhar - ¾ cup OR vegetable stuffed chapatti - 2 no OR vegetable omelet – 1 no + boiled beans – 1 katori with Skimmed milk – 1 Glass (150 Ml)
Mid-Morning:
Green Tea (sugarless) OR Ginger Tea – 1 Glass (150 ml) OR Fresh Fruits- 1 Cup
Lunch:
2 Dry chapatti + ½ cup boiled rice OR 3 Dry chapatti
(Use different flour like Jowar, mixed, corn etc. for making chapatti)
Dry sabji - 1 katori (Preferably Green leafy vegetables/ Gourd variety)
Dal / pulses – ½ cup (Non veg XXXXXXX twice a week)
Skimmed curd – ¾ katori OR Skimmed buttermilk – 1 Glass (120 ml)
Salad (without oily /mayonnaise dressing) - 1 katori
Evening Snacks:
Nuts and Dry fruits- One Handful
Late Evening Snacks:
Sprouts / boiled black Chana / veg sandwich / roasted chicken (once a week) / boiled corn – ½ Cup / wheat bread toast 1 Slice with1 tsp. peanut butter
Dinner:
Same as Lunch
OR
Vegetable XXXXXXX / Vegetable Quinoa Pulav / Vegetable Oats – ¾ cup + clear vegetable / chicken stock soup with chopped vegetables – 1 Bowl.
Along with Proper diet and exercise, getting a good 8 hour sleep also very important. 5-10 mins of meditation can help in controlling the stress if any.
I hope you find this helpful. I wish you the best of health. Thank you so much for using our services.
Thanks,
