Hello Doctor I Had A Baby On 9th Dec 2019
Question: Hello Doctor
I had a baby on 9th Dec 2019 via c-section and I am currently breadt feeding.
Since 24th Feb 2020, I am suffering from lower back pain. The pain increases at night while I am asleep and decreses during the day when I am standing and moving. I have been taking Dolo 650 since 5th Mrach 2020. The medicine helps
manage the pain but after its effect wears out, the pain returns. The intensity of the pain is neither increasing nor decreasing day by day.
Apart from picking up my baby and driving, there is no other activity I can place as the cause that could have started the problem in the first place. But now I have not picked up my baby or any other heavy weight in last 8 days, to no luck.
What can I do to resolve this situation? Are there any exercises that I can try at home?

Thanks for your response Dr. XXXXXXX Here are the answers with some additional information below:
1. May I know what medications have you tried till now ? - Dolo 650, applying Systaflam Gel, and hot water bag.
2. Have you tried a different mattress to sleep since the pain? No. I can try that.
3. Is the pain in the centre of the spine ? I can't accurately say. I feel the pain mainly in the middle of the lower back. But some days I can feel it from middle back to the lower back in the spine area, some other days I feel in the lower back to the butt crack. The pain extends to left and right of the spine and the hips.
4. Are there any problems related to menstruation ? When the 4th month of my pregnancy started, I had 2 major bleeding incidents. Both times, everything showed fine at the hospital and the bleeding stopped. Since then, throughout my pregnancy, I had about 1 teaspoon of bleeding everyday. I was put on Susten SR 200, but it didn't stop. The pregnancy went on completely healthy though. A day after the c-section (10th Dec), my post-partum bleeding started. It used to reduce a couple of times, but then increase back again. There were times when just a panty liner is enough and other days when I ended up using 2 pads a day. On 8th Feb however, I believe my periods started because the quantity and type of blood changed and it looked like period blood. This lasted for 5-6 days, just like my regular periods do. But after that as well, I continue to bleed about 1 teaspoon everyday. It looks like someone brushed off some blood on my pad everyday.
Additionally, if I sleep on my left with the right side of the body in the air, my stomach area on the right side, just above the hip feels like it has fallen down. It causes a lot of discomfort, such that over the last few weeks I am forced to sleep on my right every time.
Also, since delivery, I also have developed pain in my knees while sitting down and getting up. I also feel pain at the base of my fingers for a couple of minutes whenever I wake up, whether in the night or in the day.
All of these issues have been post pregnancy or post delivery.
Hope this helps and gives you visibility of my entire situation.

Brief Answer:
Change the sleeping mattress
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the information.
The joints especially of the pelvis like the sacroiliac joint get a bit lax during the pregnancy to aid the movement of baby via birth canal. In an attempt to prepare for normal vaginal delivery, these joints become soft in simple sense. This will surely recover soon in many and in some it may lead to pains.
Need not worry, I am not suspecting anything serious here.
For now, taking calcium supplements and changing the mattress on which you sleep would suffice to get rid of the pain.
Continue pain killer medication as mentioned above whenever the pain is unbearable.
Hope, I answered your query.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
