Hello Doctor, I Had Undergone Root Canal Treatment For Lower

Question: Hello Doctor,
I had undergone root canal treatment for Lower teeth 19th long back, but didnt put a cap
which is my mistake.
Yesterday i lost the cement in the tooth , where i can feel a hole. I consulted dentist yesterday, he said there was infection below the tooth ( he showed me the black portion in X-ray) and root canal was gone because of not putting cap and said we should re-treatment again.
Can you please let me know if the above is possible and true?
Thanks in advance,
Sandeep

Brief Answer:
Get the x-ray done
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have gone through your query and here is my advice.
If the filling what they have given is gone then you can get the filling done and over that you can get a cap or crown done.
The chances of root canal filling getting damaged is less. I advise you to get a radiograph or X-ray of that tooth and check whether the root canal filling is fine or not.
Only after seeing the x ray image we can decide whether the root canal treatment has to be repeated or not.
I hope I have answered your query. if you have any queries reply me back.
Take care
