Hello Doctor, I Have An Abscess Below My Shoulder.. Its

I have an abscess below my shoulder.. Its getting bigger and painful... I had an access around the same area a year ago and the same was cured by incision and drainage... Am unable to meet my surgeon under the present situation... A general medicine doctor nearby suggest that i can try applying glycerine magsulf on the abscess until it opens up and the pus is drained... She also asked me to take antibiotics for five days.... Is this method safe? Are there any risks to it? Is there any thing else i can do? Is it safe if i wait for a week or two without any treatment?
You should take Antibiotic
Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description,it looks like a Infected Sebaceous cyst.Last time, only incision and drainage were done.As the cyst wall is not removed, swelling might have recurred.
If there is no chance of you meeting a Surgeon, you should take Antibiotic like Amoxicillin along with Anti inflammatory tablets.
You can use Magnesium sulphate dressing over the swelling. It is safe. There are no risks or side effects.Once the pus is drained, clean the wound with POVIDONE IODINE solution and apply dressing. You should cover the wound with gauze and plaster.
You should not wait for a week to start treatment.Atleast, you should take Antibiotic.
Once the infection is subsided, you consult a Surgeon and proceed further. If there is any cyst wall remaining,it should be removed completely to prevent further recurrence.
Nothing to worry.
It will come down.
Please post the pic if you do not have any objection
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish you good health and speedy recovery
