Hello Doctor, I Met With A Car Accident Around 6
I met with a car accident around 6 weeks back and was having pain in the lower right of the back since then. It’s more of a localized pain in the lower right back and hip. I have seen an Orthopedic doctor and as per him it looks to be a muscular pain. He asked me to start with the physical therapy. I am undergoing physical therapy since last 3 weeks and found improvement in the pain. As per him, it doesn’t look to be a herniated disc but he wanted me to go for MRI just to make sure of that.
I have attached the MRI Report for your reference. Request for your advice if there is no meed to worry as per MRI report or do you see any issues with the report.
Thanks & Regards,

Mild disc bulge is seen.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the attached report.
There is mild disc bulge at L3-L4-L5-S1 levels. There is a mild narrowing of foramina also on the left side. This can cause mild numbness in the leg or toes occasionally. These changes are reversible with regular exercise.
This can cause mild low back pain. There is no need to worry. You can continue with the exercises.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.

Thanks for the advice.
Just wanted to check if I can start doing the exercises at Gym (Push ups, Pull ups, running, weight lifting - Till around 20 Kg of Dumbbells, rods etc). Also, wanted to take your advice if this mild bulge can get worse and result in an herniated disc if I do the therapy related exercises just once or twice a week but do gym exercises, weight lifting on regular basis? Asking so as my therapist asked me to continue the back related exercises as home but want me to discontinue the therapy exercises at his office using machines as he is saying he is able to see good improvement and don't see any need to perform therapy at office. As per him, even the exercise at home will now be able to resolve this.
Also, Just curious if it is possible that this mild bulge was already existing and can be due to normal wear and tear and is not related to the accident? Is it possible that it just came into picture because we were trying to diagnose any issue due to the accident? Asking so as I am not feeling any pain/numbness as such in the leg. However, the only difference I feel is that I used to feel mild pain in my left leg before the accident which got better after Gym exercises but started getting the pain in right leg after the accident.
Sorry for little weird questions but just worried as I would need to move to a different state in next 2-3 weeks for a different assignment and just want to make sure that this movement due to office assignments doesn't impact my recovery process.
Thanks & Regards,

Do the back exercises only as of now.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Doing strenuous exercises in the gym can cause muscle pull or sprain. It is best to avoid push ups, pull ups and weight lifting or dumbells and continue with the back exercises at home as your therapist has suggested. Let the back issue resolve first and then you can start with the gym exercises gradually under the guidance of a trainer.
It can be possible that the mild disc bulge was already existing and was diagnosed on MRI scan. This can happen due to normal wear and tear. But avoiding the back exercises can further aggravate the problem.
Hope my answer is helpful.
