Hello Doctor, I Went Through Complete Blood Exam Around 3
I went through complete blood exam around 3 months ago and found that my Hemoglobin A1c is 5.8%. It is mentioned that anything above 5.7% comes under prediabetes. I am little worried if this increased my chances of getting diabetes. I did few changes in my diet post this report. Previously I used to have coffee with a lot of whipped cream almost every second day. Also, I used to have a lot of sugary food items like XXXXXXX cheesecake, Croissant etc. This food habit continued for almost 6-7 months. After the report, I completely stopped whipped cream, XXXXXXX Cheesecake, Croissant etc but have ice creams and cake occasionally. However, I am consuming 2 mangoes per day from almost last 1 month.
I have a query if consuming 2 mangoes per day will increase my chance of getting diabetes. None of my parents have diabetes.
Also, I have a question regarding "Total Protein" in the attached report. It says my Total protein is higher than expected. Does this mean that I should take less protein diet?
As per my primary doctor, there is nothing to worry about Total protein and prediabetes as its slightly high. The only concern she mentioned was about High Cholesterol but for that she asked to take less cholesterol diet and do some exercise. She will continue to monitor cholesterol for next 2 months before she decides if I should take any medicine. My family has a history of high cholesterol.
Request for your advice on "Total Protein" and Prediabetes.
Thanks & Regards,

about Hba1c and high protein;
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
The total protein result is not comsidered high when it is in these ranges, it is normal and does not need special diet or protein restriction.
Regarding to prediabetes, you have a fasting normal glucose level but you need to check postprandial glucose to confirm that the high postprandial glucose level is the cause of slightly elevated Hba1c.
Anyway, in these levels calorie restriction and physical activity would be recommended.
Regarding 2 mangos per day i would say yes, you can consume them, but you need to cut other carbohydrates (less cereal, rice or pasta) and it would be better to alter the fruits noy everyday the same.
Hope the information will help.
Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta
