Hello Doctor, I'm 74 Years Of Age And Consider Myself

Question: Hello Doctor, I'm 74 years of age and consider myself to be in good health. I exercise regularly and do all of the other things to maintain my health. The only medication I am taking is for high blood pressure. The name of the medication is; Lisinopril Hctz 20-25 MG once daily. I have been taking the same medication for about two years. Now to my recent health issue. During a daily exercise of situps, I experienced a sharp pain in the lower center of my back so I immediately stopped and started massaging that erea for a few minutes until the pain subsided. Then a few hours later, I noticed some discomfort in my left hip when walking. The pain increased with the passing of each day so I started taking over-the-counter pain pills. During the day, I'm able to walk in a normal way without any serious discomfort. I'm able to sleep fairly well but when I get up in the morning and attempt to walk, the pain is much more intense. I have been walking every morning for 15 minutes over the past 30 years but now the pain is in my left leg only. That has helped my mobility and the apperence of normacy. I thought like any injury, it will improve but has not. Also, another symptom I've noticed is having to urinate more regularly over the past 12 months. I would like to have your opinion before I make an appointment with my doctor. Please forward me the TERMS and CONDITIONS before providing me with your diagnosis. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
May be muscle sprain. Follow up with few details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, it may be due to muscle sprain as you experienced sharp pain while situps.

Please let me know do you have tingling or numbness in lower limbs?

For that you can continue tablet acetaminophen (Tylenol) 500 mg every 6 hourly. Apply diclofenac gel with heating pads. Avoid forward bending.

Along with that I would suggest you to do MRI lumbar spine and nerve conduction study to rule out nerve compression after detailed medical examination and orthopedician consultation.

For another symptom i. e. Increased micturation frequency please let me know do you have burning micturation, increased thirst?

For that I would suggest you to do ultrasound abdomen and pelvis with fasting and postprandial blood sugar level to rule out possibilities of benign prostate hyperplasia and diabetes.

Till then you can take tablet tolterodine 2 mg twice a day after consultation. Keep your self hydrated.

Let me know I can assist you further....

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale.
