Question: Hello Doctor. I've been having these symptoms - loss of appetite, belching, bloating (occurs even liquid consumption), vague feeling in upper abdomen, mucus-like feeling in throat. These symptoms have been occurring for almost two weeks now. Before the second week, I had chest tightness, with no breathing difficulties, but that seems to resolve on its own before the second week. Is it Gastritis? Or GERD? I have experienced no heartburn, burning sensation in chest, chest pains, no pains at all. Thanks.

Hello Dr. R.K,
I've been reading up on the symptoms, but I just don't understand my situation here at all. I've not experienced any abdominal pains, no diarrhea, nor any heartburns and I sleep fine at night. How serious is this exactly?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me with more questions.
The upper abdominal discomfort and bloating are dyspeptic symptoms.
Belching and feeling of "mucus" in the throat are due to GERD.
As mentioned earlier, you would get benefited with OTC Prilosec.
These are not serious issues.
They should be considered serious if your hemoglobin is low, you are losing weight, vomiting blood/passing black stool or have difficulty in swallowing.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
