Question: Hello Doctor

Last year 2018 July I was diagnosed with GERD.

I was kept on Sompraz D40 for 30 Days.
Sompraz D40 1-0-0 before food.
---------------------
the medicine was discontinued and after 2 months the GERD started again.
I took an endoscopy . its attached herewith.
The medicines prescribed were
nexium 40 mg
1-0-1 for 10 days before food
sucrafil syrup
1-1-1 for 10 days after food
Rantidine 300MG
0-0-1 for 10 days after food (Stopped due to burning sensation in stomach and diarrhea)
Sompraz D40
1-0-0 for 30 days before food
---------------------

After the above treatment everything was fine but two weeks back I ate hot spicy masala food which triggered GERD again.

Doctor prescribed nexium 40mg again
1-0-1 for 10 days before food
after that he prescribed the following medicines for 30 days.
Gastrozin 75 MG
1-0-1 for 30 days after meal
REBAGEN 100 MG
1-0-1 for 30 days after meal

Please provide your thoughts and advice before I take gatrozin and rebagen tablets.

Brief Answer:
Medicines can't cure but just control symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello my dear patient and thank you for choosing 'Ask a Doctor' forum for your query,
I have seen your details and you are a clear cut case of Gastritis which means inflammation of stomach in response to food(Food acts as allergan stimulate it and cause inflammation) and esophagitis(which again means inflammation of esophagus as a result of irritation of esophagus).

To be really XXXXXXX sir there is no cure of this condition however the good news is that by following a proper life style which includes avoiding any thing which aggravates the condition would help you control the symptoms fully and you can lead a perfectly normal life.
Both the medications mentioned by you are again antacids. You would be fine till the time you take them but again they will not cure the disease just help you with symptoms like sompraz d or Nexium or Ranitidine.
They are all antacid with different mechanism of action but sir harsh truth is that you have to follow a proper diet and lifestyle to control the symptom fully.
There is no drug to cure gastritis till date.So if you want you can continue with new prescription or can take Sompraz D or any antacid.
But at the end of the day your disease depends on how well you control your diet.
You must be knowing but few major points are
Avoid alcohol and fast food.
No smoking.
No spicy food.
Eat home cooked food low in spices.
Till date no drug can cure gastritis permanemtly allthat doctor can do is to change salt from one to another to give you a mental satisfaction.

Hope I was to the point clear cut and easy to understand.
Follow ups are welcome.
Thanks.

Hello Doctor,

This all started with a food poisoning and subsequent use of antibiotics to stop diarhhea.
Several food poisoning episodes and antibiotic treatment happened 1 year back.

So as per your note ,Once gastritis happen, there is no permanent cure for it. But we can manage it with proper life style. Am I Correct?

Brief Answer:
Antibiotic associated Gastritis can be fully cured.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
No if this happened after antibiotic therapy or there is any secondary cause then it could be controlled and can even be cured by long term treatment.
Start taking Esomeprazole 80 mg in morning and 40 mg in evening two times a day.
Any antacid syrup 2 tsf before lunch and dinner.
Manage to get acotiamide tablets 100 mg from Europe or Asia or Mexican countries(it's not available in USA).
Take them initially for 21days after that as per response doses would be tappered.
Follow life style modification as advised.
It would take about 3 to 6 months to cure you.
Don't stop any medicine on your own.
Thanks.
