Question: Hello Doctor, My father complained about slight pain in the left side of the rib cage. We consulted a doctor nearby and he asked us to get some tests done. The test mentions about "Small right renal cortical cyst - Grade 3 proststomegally with gross post void residual urine". Could you please help me understand more about this. Like can the cyst be cured with pills or need any surgery. Any reasons why this cyst was formed. Is it harmful or can be ignored.

Brief Answer:
Cyst neither needs treatment nor surgery Can be monitored

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Based on the facts that you have posted your father has been detected to have Renal Cyst and Enlarged prostate with significant post void residual urine .

As regards Renal Cyst these are congenital in origin and benign in nature .These cysts neither require active treatment nor surgery .They can be left alone and monitored by doing Ultrasound Scanning as and when necessary.Treatment is advised only in a situation when it gets infected or there is sudden increase in size .

As regards Prostatomegally It is common in elderly people and need to consult qualified Urologist for evaluation and to decide future line of treatment.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
