Hello Doctor, My Husband Has Been Hospitalized With Severe Pain

My husband has been hospitalized with severe pain in the right side back.
Doctor diagnosis is that he has a stone of size 2mm in the VUJ which is causing the pain.
Doctors have given medication so that the stone will dissolve and come out on its own...but that is not happening even after 24 hrs. And my husband is still having pain.
So doctor suggested go for Endoscopy and get the stone removed with the help of this process.
Seeking your second opinion if this is the right procedure or is there anything that we can do here.
You can still wait for a day or two
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query. Based on the facts that you have posted your husband has been admitted in hospital for severe pain in loin and Ultrasound Scanning has revealed a stone in ureter impacted at VUJ.
I can understand your concern for severe agony that your husband is going through but I as a XXXXXXX Urologist would like to wait for day or two more as in most. of the patients stone passes out spontaneously One can certainly expect for a stone less than size of 6 mm spontaneously.
The only indication that demands endoscopic intervention are
1) Repeated attacks of severe pain after observing for more 5 days
2)Repeated attacks of vomiting
3) High Grade fever
Your Urologist will treat him with I/V fluids , pain killers and medicines to dilate the ureter so as to held passage of stone down in bladder.
I would wait for 2-3 days had I been a Urologist treating your husband and then take a call for surgical intervention after 2-3 days
Thanks and Regards
