Hello Doctor, My Son (2 Years Old) Had High Grade

My son (2 Years old) had high grade fever of 103-104 degree since last 2 days. We were controlling it using Acetaminophen, Paracetamol and Ibuprofen. As per the doctor we visited, it looks like Viral infection and should get better by today. He is also having red cherry syrup from today morning for cough.
The fever started subsiding today and has not crossed 100 degrees from last 6 hours. However, we saw some red color (Looks like blood) in his stool today morning. Please find attached the picture for your reference. We are worried if this is something wrong with the intestine, not compatible with some medicine or something like fissures.
Please note that he is getting few rashes, mostly on face and couple on hand and feet from last few days (3 Weeks). As per doctor, those looks to be from allergy and nothing to worry about as allergies are quite common in XXXXXXX
Request for your advice on blood in stool.
Thanks & Regards,
Ashish
Most likely caused by injury due to hard stool
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for asking on this platform
I have gone through the query and have seen the image. I can understand your concern.
In the image the stool appears to be hard and red stained most likely due to blood. Hard stool causes injury to the anal mucosa and is the most common cause of blood stained red colored stool.
Here you have mentioned that you are giving red cherry syrup for cough. Is this really red cherry syrup( a form of cherry juice) or it is chericof syrup(syrup for cough)?
Red colored food items may also cause red colored stool. If stool is red due to blood the origin of blood is in the lower intestine as bleeding in upper intestine or stomach causes black not red color of the stool.
As fever is improving I would suggest you to monitor the temperature and to use paracetamol for fever.
I don't think it to be due to allergy.
Observe stool for any further bleeding, ask if there is any pain during passing stool, check for any injury mark at anal opening, give plenty of fluids and you can give some laxative like lactulose to soften the stool.
I hope once stool consistency gets better, there will not be any further bleed.
Please ask me if you have any more doubts.
Wishing for your baby's good health.
Regards
