Iron rich food
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is common to have iron deficiency in pregnant mothers. So 9.6 is low normal but common to find in pregnant woman. Try to keep it above 10. The body increases the blood volume to nourish the growing baby in the womb. As the blood volume increases there would be dilution in the iron. Since iron is important to deliver the oxygen to different body parts it is important to supplement the pregnant woman with iron supplements. Let her take iron tablet with lemon juice as it has VitC which helps in absorption. Iron tablet should be taken at least 2 hours before food for better absorption. If your wife is taking antacids, avoid antacids for two to four hours after iron tablet.
If you are vegetarian you should have more vitamin C along with iron rich food. Doing so with citrus fruits, strawberries, kiwi, melon, leafy green vegetables, and tomatoesmay also aid in iron absorption. Try finding iron fortified foods like bread, pasta and cereal in the market. Generally we advise dark green leafy vegetables (e.g., spinach), red meat, poultry, pork, beans, peas, dried fruit to be iron rich during pregnancy.
Hope this answers.
